Project Life for Meal Planning
Project Life by Becky Higgins is a system designed for scrapbookers who don't have the time to do layouts but want to record their lives in a quick and easy way.
Segmented plastic pockets are filled with pictures and pre-designed journalling cards which give a large layout where the elements just slot in and all the pockets are held in a lovely padded ringbinder.
It just doesn't work for me though. I like simple scrapbook layouts but I don't like my layouts when I do them in the Project Life style. So after investing in the cards, the pockets and the binder, I need to find an alternative use and that is...
To do my meal planning!
I've been meaning to make a meal planning board for ages but haven't got around to it. I want a card system where I can categorise meals into types of meat, sides and carbs and I figured my project life binder is ideal for this! I can even write recipes on the backs of the cards.
I have a lot of meals to write up and add to my binder but this is my starting point.
The boys can even have a browse through when they don't know what they fancy. It'll be like a menu for them. They'll love it! They have waiter service, why not have a menu too!
What do you think?
Would this system work for you?
Have you any alternative uses for the Project Life Materials?
This is not a sponsored post, it is me making a craft project out of an investment that is sat there gathering dust. Although, I would love to do a sponsored post if Becky or her team are reading?!

Free School Breakfast - No Thanks
My middle child's school provides a free breakfast for all pupils. This is as a result of children going to school hungry.
Why are they going to school hungry?
Is it not a parents responsibility to feed and look after their children? I would go hungry myself before letting my sons go hungry.
Each day, at morning break they receive a bread product, a piece of fruit (which they have provided for at least the last 8 years anyway) and a bottle of water.
So why do I have a problem with this?
I feed my boys when they get up. Always have, always will. Then they take a packed lunch to school. When they eat an extra bread roll or pancake they are not hungry enough at their lunch slot and they are not eating all their lunches.
This extra meal provided by school is interferring with a meal routine I have spent years developing.
I understand some kids don't get a meal but is providing this meal solving the problem? I believe children should be looked after at home. If school continue to pick up what is missed at home, the problem of it being missed will never be addressed.
Please let me know your thoughts

Meal Planning Monday - Freezer February Week Three!!
If you've read my previous freezer February posts you'll know I'm trying to empty the freezer because it is chokka full of bits and pieces.
Each drawer is STILL about half full and I need to get creative with the contents now. It's half term now so I'm hoping I can get some lunches out of it and get it emptied!!!
This is this week's plan
Monday: fish pie made of the mystery fish I forgot to label
Tuesday: mince plate pie and boiled potatoes
Wednesday: potato and chicken curry
Thursday: tacos with chilli
Friday: toad in the hole and mash
Saturday: take away
Sunday: mystery beef steak with peppercorn sauce
There's loads more meal plans over at Mrs Ms Blog. There's some amazing plans on a tight budget
Have a good week!

Sorry for the interruption in service!
Well, doesn't time fly!
I've no excuse for not keeping the blog updated other than I don't seem to have enough time in the day to get through the essentials.
Work is hectic, the end of the housing slump does appear to be nigh and it always seems to be Friday. Not that that is a bad thing!
So, the money saving projects have gone awry. Well, completely off track actually but come today, they are back on track!! Monday's meal planning post is using what we have in already to save £80 and empty the teeny tiny freezer to make way for some batch cooking and Christmas prep.
One of my main reasons for blogging is to keep me on track on the things I need to do. Sounds mental, adding another task to make sure I do a list of tasks as long as my arm but it works. I need to keep reading blogs such as Mortgage Free in Three to keep me on the money saving crusade, A Thrifty Mrs to keep my house clean and I'm now a Pinterest addict which makes me want to craft and organise parties!)
So, I intend to blog craft projects which save money and give me crafting satisfaction but time will tell if I actually do (or if anyone reads them!)
So, start as I mean to go on....I shall do my meal planning and shopping lists right now!!
PS - I do need pestering - please pester - leave comments, tweet me @claire_sheehan, mither me!! The odd "how much have you saved today?" prod would me a massive help!!

After the hectic summer hols, I'm getting back on track & resuming life.
So after frantic reading of several cookbooks this morning, this is the plan...

Tuesday: Gino De Campo's Three Bean Chilli & Rice
Wednesday: Slow Roasted Sun Dried Tomato Beef & Pesto Roasties
Thursday: The Hairy Dieters Paprika Chicken
Friday: Annabel Karmel's Chicken Burgers
Saturday: Hey, Hey, Takeaway!!

I am determined to stick to this plan (for the first time ever!!) so determined in fact that tomorrow's chilli has already been cooked.

Meal Planning Monday - Lunch & Dinner Special
They never stop eating! Boys that is. After a week of constant scoffing, I'm going on a two pronged attack of planning lunch and dinner in an attempt to fill them.
So here it is:
Monday:
Lunch - Macaroni Cheese
Dinner - Shepherds Pie
Tuesday:
Lunch - Burgers (made of shepherds pie leftovers) and potato Wedges
Dinner - Chicken Roast Dinner
Wednesday:
Lunch - Chicken Pilaf (from left over chicken)
Dinner - Chicken Enchiladas (using the last of the chicken)
Thursday:
Lunch: Cowboy Casserole
Dinner: Fish Pie with lots of veg
Friday:
Lunch: Home made sausage rolls & cheese & tomato squares
Dinner: Spaghetti Bolognaise
I'm also installing a permanent fixture of a big tub of fruit salad in the fridge for between meals.
If this plan doesn't work, they'll be getting cooked breakfasts next week.
How do you fill your kids up?
